My Favourite Short Walk in the Surrey Hills
Nestled in the stunning Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one of my favourite short circular walk is the Leith Hill Loop. This 2–3-hour route combines enchanting woodlands, panoramic views, and a touch of history. Perfect for a refreshing morning or an afternoon escape, the trail is accessible year-round and offers plenty of opportunities for photos, wildlife spotting, and relaxation.

Descend southward along the broad path, winding through ancient woodland. Look out for tall pines and the occasional deer. The trail leads you to Coldharbour Common, an open heathland area bursting with vibrant heather in late summer.

The route briefly joins a broader bridleway before skirting the edge of Abinger Roughs, a National Trust-owned area of ancient woodland. It’s a serene spot, perfect for a short break.

Follow the stream until the trail climbs back towards the starting point. The final leg weaves through mixed woodland, offering a peaceful end to the walk.
Where to Refuel
After your walk, head to The Plough Inn, a charming pub in nearby Coldharbour. They serve hearty meals, seasonal specials, and locally brewed ales. Perfect for warming up by the fire in winter or enjoying the garden in summer.
